Neal Shusterman is a successful novelist, screenwriter and television writer. He grew up in Brooklyn, New York and finished the last two years of high school in Mexico City after the family relocated. Shusterman credits his Year 9 English teacher for helping him discover writing as his driving passion. She discovered his interest in writing and challenged Neal to write a story a month for extra credit. He felt he needed the extra credit and thereby took up her challenge. By the end of the year, Shusterman felt like a writer.
