The Pause by John Larkin
This novel by John Larkin incorporates many themes relating to suicide and depression, however, the author does not make these themes the protagonist. Declan is seventeen years old, recently heart broken and standing on a station platform ready to walk in front of an oncoming train, however, he ‘pauses'… He confronts this heart jolting realisation that life is worth living and he must dig deep, preserve and face the traumatic and heartbreaking experiences that are very present in his life. Be expected to ride the rollercoaster of emotions when reading this book, emotions of desolation and consolation. Well worth a read!
