LIMERICKS
Is the Limerick a form of poetry or are limericks just childish rhymes?
SONNETS
Sonnets are 14-line poems… yes, 14 lines exactly and they follow a very rigid rhyme scheme. There are actually a few different types of sonnets, but the most famous is the Shakespearean, or English, sonnet.
NARRATVE POEMS
A narrative poem tells a story in an entertaining way: usually with rhyme. As narrative poetry has its roots in ancient oral traditions, it is thought that the rhyme schemes were a mnemonic device that allowed performers to carry many stories inside their heads, before the advent of literacy.

Keats wrote five odes, and all of them are shockingly good. These are the kinds of poems that literary critics die for, and that send later writers into bouts of envy. Of the five odes, "Grecian Urn," with its immortal and mysterious final lines, is the most well known.
FREE VERSE
Free verse poems will have no set meter, which is the rhythm of the words, no rhyme scheme, or any particular structure. Some poets would find this liberating, being able to whimsically change your mind, while others feel like they could not do a good job in that manner. Robert Frost commented that writing free verse was like "playing tennis without a net."
