Fernando House is named after Richie Fernando SJ, a Jesuit missionary from the Philippines who sacrificed his life to protect his students. For Richie, education was a means of liberating people, freeing them for a future. He was strongly drawn to work with the poor and found life among them. He was passionate, too, about justice. Pastoral care—even for those who, at times, might appear the most unlovable— was always a priority.

As Jesus said in the Gospel (John 10:27-30),
“My sheep hear my voice;
I know them, and they follow me.
I give them eternal life,
and they shall never perish.
No one can take them out of my hand.
My Father, who has given them to me,
is greater than all,
and no one can take them out
of the Father’s hand.
The Father and I are one.”
