Few letters have been so enthusiastically received & so widely diffused as those of the sixteenth-century Jesuit missionary & Saint, Francis Xavier. Written from India, the Indonesian archipelago, Japan, & the island of Sancian off the coast of China, these letters were copied, recopied, translated into Latin, German, French, & other languages, & frequently printed for wider circulation. The Life of St. Francis Xavier is a lengthy biography of the apostle to the Indies and Japan.
Xavier House is named after Saint Francis Xavier (1506-1552), one of Ignatius' first companions in founding the Jesuits, and sent by him as a missionary to India, Japan and China. He is the Patron Saint of Australia. He was chosen as a House Patron because of his great generosity of soul as a young man and his tireless dedication in spreading the love of Jesus Christ in our part of the world.
